![]() ![]() I was spotting for a guy at the Q one morning helping him get sight settings. I want to use big grease cookies if this will reduce the need to blow-tube or wipe between shots. I know it's a long road down the paper-patch route but I'm excited about giving it a try. I'm tending towards the medium size meplat from KAL. If bullet expansion size is great for pointed/round nose 40:1 or softer lead, then meplat size might be a non-issue. If it is stable at 500 yards I would be delighted. I'm concerned if I get the large meplat size, my effective range for accuracy might be reduced significantly. I have read about big meplats and possible nose instability for long range. 444 size, and wrap them and do a bunch of load developement first, before choosing the size bullet mould to order from KAL. ![]() I figure I could just buy some BACO bullets in. I want to shoot several times without blowtubing or wiping so I was thinking of something smaller than bore size (wrapped). I like the looks of the KAL Tool tangential ogive style and it appears they have three meplat sizes to choose from. I'm particularly interested in some feedback regarding expansion vs meplat size with soft alloys (40:1, 60:1, pure lead). I have a saddle rifle in 45-110 (regular chamber) and have been reading for hours about paper patch shooting and I want to give it a try.
